Carnival Queen Contestants Unite to Combat Addiction

Jiya Jaanvi Prasad is committed to combating drug addiction through awareness and compassion. The 20-year-old, representing Rainbow Cool Tech, is one of seven contestants at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, where they come together to address this pressing issue.

“This week at the Coral Coast Carnival, we are united in our fight against drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated. She expressed that, despite it being her first pageant experience, she feels a strong sense of hope and support for those affected by addiction.

Prasad underscores the importance of compassion in breaking the cycle of addiction, emphasizing a collective strength in their mission. “By raising awareness and offering compassion, we can help break the chains of addiction and create a brighter, healthier future for all. Together, we are stronger in this fight,” she added.

She credits her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, both of whom work in the tourism industry, for their unwavering support. A resident of Maro, Nadroga, Jiya attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

Additionally, Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary, mentioned that the carnival has been a continued event over the past four years, with the crowning ceremony scheduled for this Saturday.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of raising awareness about drug addiction but also showcases the empowerment of youth in making meaningful changes in their community. Jiya’s journey serves as an inspiring reminder that through collective efforts and compassion, progress can be made towards a healthier society.
