Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a 20-year-old contestant at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, is championing the cause against drug addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she is one of seven contestants participating in this important initiative aimed at raising awareness and offering compassion to those affected by addiction.
At the carnival, Ms. Prasad emphasized the collective effort needed to combat drug addiction, stating, “While it’s a barrier that affects many, we stand for hope, recovery, and support.” This marks her debut in a pageant, highlighting her commitment to making a difference. She firmly believes that by fostering awareness and compassion, society can break the chains of addiction and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future.
Jiya credits her success to the unwavering support of her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, both employed in the tourism sector. Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, she has a strong educational background, having attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.
Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary, mentioned that this year’s carnival continues to build on its legacy, celebrating four years of commitment to the cause. The crowning of the contestants is scheduled for this Saturday.
