The recent Careers Fair, organized by the Outsourcing Industry in Suva, has highlighted its dual purpose: not only to explore various career options but also to facilitate meaningful dialogues between parents and children regarding their aspirations. This perspective was shared by Assistant Minister Iliesa Vanawalu during the event’s launch.

Mr. Vanawalu noted that this fair represents a crucial shift from the traditional practice of students remaining at home during school holidays, providing them instead with invaluable exposure to the workforce. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reaching students across all of Fiji, ensuring that no aspiring individual is overlooked.

Mr. Vanawalu further stated, “Education is not merely about imparting knowledge; it is about empowering individuals to realize their full potential, pursue their passions, and contribute meaningfully to society.” He acknowledged that education must not operate in isolation; it should be closely connected with industry needs and foster innovation to ensure graduates are prepared for modern workforce demands.

Senior Curriculum Advisor for Career Section at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Lasarusa Rakula, encouraged students and school leavers to take advantage of the fair, highlighting the limited job opportunities currently available in Fiji.

The event saw a strong turnout from students within the greater Suva area, demonstrating a collective eagerness to engage with future career possibilities.

This Careers Fair serves not only as a gateway to new job prospects but also as an opportunity for students to connect their educational experiences with real-world applications, fostering a generation that is better prepared for the challenges ahead.

In summary, the Careers Fair underscores a growing recognition of the need for educational systems to align more closely with industry demands and for young people to actively engage in conversations about their futures. This initiative represents a hopeful step towards empowering students in Fiji to explore and pursue their career aspirations fully.
