Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island had the chance to expand their opportunities at a Careers Expo held at Yasayasa Moala College. Guided by their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu, students in grades 6 to 8 participated in the week-long event organized by the Ministry of Education.
The Expo, which traveled to various locations in the Lau group, featured booths from various stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu highlighted the significance of exposing students to opportunities beyond their island.
“Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of the expo as students get ready to progress to secondary school and eventually to universities.
The attending students explored numerous booths and gathered information about different educational pathways. Kotobalavu, a graduate of FNU, noted that having institutions like FNU at the expo encourages students to contemplate their future possibilities.
“This moment is crucial for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” he remarked, underlining the positive effects of such initiatives in remote maritime regions.
