Fiji’s solid performance in Cape Town earned them 16 points, while South Africa’s successful title defense allowed them to garner the maximum 20 points from the tournament. Both teams are now equal leaders with 32 points each, with New Zealand trailing closely behind in third with 28 points. France occupies the fourth position with the same points as New Zealand, while Australia is in fifth place with 26 points. Last season’s champions, Argentina, are currently in sixth with 24 points.
On the women’s side, the Fiji Airways Fijiana sevens team finished in sixth place after a strong showing that culminated in a 47-7 victory against Great Britain. This performance marked a positive end to their campaign in Cape Town, even though they are currently placed sixth in the overall standings. The Fijiana team sits with 24 points, while Australia and New Zealand lead the women’s competition, both tied at 38 points but separated by points differential. Japan is in third with 28 points, the USA follows in fourth with 26 points, and France sits at fifth with 24 points.
The next opportunity for both teams to showcase their skills will be at the upcoming tournament in Singapore, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
