Vimal Dutt, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Cane Growers Council, emphasized that 2025 is shaping up to be particularly tough due to unpredictable weather conditions, escalating input costs, and persistent issues related to harvesting, milling, and labor.

In his remarks, Dutt pointed to the Cane Grower newsletter as an essential resource for keeping farmers informed through consistent updates in both English and local languages. He also stressed the importance of climate risk management, noting that parametric insurance is now available for the cyclone season at subsidized rates. Additionally, he mentioned that micro bundled insurance has been instrumental in providing financial relief to families impacted by losses.
