Board members of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NCCI) engaged in an important meeting this week with Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, who is in Fiji for a diplomatic visit. The NCCI delegation was headed by President Lawrence Kumar, who emphasized the significance of this interaction with a high-ranking official.
During the meeting, Mr. Sarai outlined Canada’s foreign policy priorities, particularly focusing on diversifying trade and investment opportunities and enhancing economic growth through international assistance. This discussion came during a special business reception hosted by Investment Fiji at the Crowne Plaza Nadi Bay Resort & Spa in Wailoaloa, Nadi.
Mr. Sarai’s visit represents a crucial milestone in the established partnership between Canada and Fiji, which has fostered strong personal and professional connections over the years. Mr. Kumar described the event as a fantastic networking opportunity that could significantly benefit economic activities and job creation in Fiji.
An important outcome of the meeting includes the groundwork for NCCI members to connect with the Fiji Canada Business Council, aiming to boost shared interests in trade and commerce. Mr. Kumar also expressed his excitement regarding the newly established High Commission of Canada in Fiji, a development that he believes was long overdue.
“This fully-fledged High Commission in Suva will undoubtedly simplify travel and business operations between our nations, encouraging a potential increase in Canadian tourists visiting Fiji,” Mr. Kumar remarked. He also took the opportunity to commend Her Excellency Dr. Jennifer Lalonde on her recent appointment as the Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji.
The meeting symbolizes an optimistic step forward in strengthening bilateral ties, opening doors for economic growth, and fostering deeper connections between Canada and Fiji.
