The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, along with the Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Jennifer Lalonde, welcomed Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, Hon. Randeep Sarai, upon his arrival at Nadi International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
This marks Hon. Sarai’s first official visit to Fiji, which will span three days and include a series of site visits and engagements across Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva. During his stay, he is set to tour various Canadian-funded initiatives and engage with partners to bolster and promote Canadian trade and development cooperation in the region.
A highlight of the visit will be the announcement of the Pacific Women Entrepreneurs as Island Guardians Project (2024–2028), a regional initiative that encompasses Fiji, Samoa, and Tuvalu. Additionally, Hon. Sarai is scheduled to officially open Canada’s High Commission in Suva later this week.
Throughout his time in the country, the Canadian Secretary of State will hold discussions with senior government officials, representatives of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, as well as multilateral development partners and other key stakeholders. This visit exemplifies the ongoing commitment between Canada and Fiji to strengthen partnerships and elevate development initiatives that benefit the Pacific region.
