Chinese investors require more convincing to consider investing in Vatukoula Gold Mines, according to statements from the mine. A Chinese delegation recently met with the Fijian Government after a review of the Vatukoula site. Ian He, a spokesperson for Vatukoula Gold, mentioned that the delegation consisted of representatives who have previously invested in a mining venture in Australia.
He explained that their visit to Fiji was initiated at the request of Vatukoula, aimed at assessing the investment climate. However, He noted that significant efforts would be required to persuade them to invest in Vatukoula. The delegation’s visit formed part of a broader tour in Australia.
The discussions emerged following inquiries from online influencer Alex Forwood, who raised critical questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo regarding the progress of a mining project at Mt Kasi. Although the Government has permitted Vatukoula Gold to conduct mineral exploration at Mt Kasi, the actual exploration has not yet occurred due to opposition from landowners in Macuata.
