Sireli Bobo, a former rugby star, expresses confidence in the Flying Fijians’ ability to upset Ireland in their upcoming Test match on Sunday morning (Fiji time). Bobo, who has been involved in coaching and recently co-led Nadroga to victory in the Skipper Cup, praised the team’s resilience, especially following their bounce back from a loss to Scotland.

The Flying Fijians faced a challenging start in their Northern tour with a significant 57-17 defeat to Scotland but showed their strength by defeating Wales 24-19 and then Spain 33-19, marked by an impressive debut try from 18-year-old lock Setareki Turagacoke.

Bobo emphasized the importance of mental readiness on game day, stating that if the players approach the match prepared, they can secure a victory. He acknowledged Ireland’s structured and ruthless playing style but believes Fiji possesses the capabilities to compete at a high level.

In preparation for the match, Fiji welcomed Peniasi Dakuwaqa from Stade Francais as a replacement for the suspended Semi Radradra. Dakuwaqa, who scored twice during his debut against Georgia, adds depth to the squad. Bobo expressed faith in head coach Mick Byrne to select the strongest team for the game.

Despite Fiji’s historical struggles against Ireland, Bobo is optimistic that the current squad can turn things around, highlighting their improved options at fly-half with Caleb Muntz and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula. He believes it’s time for Fiji to create new history in rugby.

Ireland’s scrum coach, John Fogarty, acknowledged the improvement of the Flying Fijians since their last encounter, noting their threat in various aspects of the game. He indicated that while Ireland is aiming for a strong performance, they recognize the challenge posed by their opponents.

The match is set to kick off at 3:10 am Fiji time.

This upcoming match represents an exciting opportunity for the Flying Fijians to demonstrate their growth and resilience on the international stage. With a mix of youth and experience, they have the potential to make a significant impact. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if they can achieve a historic win against a formidable Irish team.
