“Can Tavua’s Coach-Player Dr. Singh Turn the Tide in Final Showdown?”

Tavua’s coach, Dr. Diva Singh, is set to take on a dual role during the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua this Saturday. As a dependable midfielder, he might fill in for Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card in the first leg of the final at Subrail Park in Labasa, where Bua triumphed with a score of 1-0.

Despite not having played a match since switching to coaching, Dr. Singh is prepared for this challenge. In an interview, he emphasized the importance of hard work for his team to achieve a victory by two clear goals, despite having the advantage of playing at home.

“We need to concentrate on our gameplay and enhance our mental preparation. While home ground is an advantage, our boys must perform,” Dr. Singh stated. He acknowledged the significant impact of Tiwa’s absence, noting, “Whoever steps into his position will have big shoes to fill. Many have reached out, asking me to play. Although I have trained with the team all season, I haven’t played yet.”

He expressed the possibility of making his last appearance for Tavua on Saturday, highlighting the match’s importance for their status in the coming season. “We desperately want to reclaim our place in the Premier Division, and we understand the challenge ahead will be difficult,” he noted.

Dr. Singh also called on the Tavua fans to show up in support, expressing confidence in his team’s ability to succeed. Bua only needs a draw to secure the title and a place in the Premier Division, while Tavua must win by at least two goals. If Tavua wins 1-0, the match will go into extra time, and the winner may be decided by penalty kicks if necessary.
