Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, has raised alarm over the increasing issue of child neglect, emphasizing the need for stronger support systems for families. She pointed out that as parents face the challenges of balancing work and other responsibilities, many children are losing their sense of focus and direction.

Kiran believes that fostering stronger families at the community level is critical to addressing this growing concern. She stated, “Good parenting programs are essential, especially with the prevalence of drugs in our society today. We are very worried about how we can keep our children and young people together. Therefore, we have specific programs aimed at tackling this issue.”

In her message, Kiran called upon communities, churches, and traditional leaders to play an active role in supporting children and families. She underscored that the government cannot tackle this problem alone and that collective action is vital for the welfare of the younger generation.

The minister’s call to action highlights the importance of community involvement in creating a nurturing environment for children, aiming to unite various sectors in a concerted effort to combat neglect and ensure a brighter future for those at risk.
