Regular physical activity is vital in the battle against cancer, according to Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa. He emphasized that adopting an active lifestyle can significantly lower the risk of developing this serious disease. Speaking after the Fiji Cancer Society’s World Cancer Day walk in Suva, Ravunawa highlighted the importance of combining regular health check-ups with a healthy lifestyle, which includes proper nutrition and consistent physical activity.
“Cancer is a serious concern for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services,” Ravunawa stated. He urged the community to stay informed about their health and maintain well-balanced diets as well as engage in regular exercise.
The Minister praised community engagement, noting that events like the cancer walk foster national unity and solidarity against cancer. Participants of the event completed a 5km walk around Albert Park and enjoyed warm-up and cool-down sessions of Zumba, facilitated by fitness instructor Litiana Miller. She expressed her satisfaction with the community’s robust participation, stating that increased physical activity not only promotes better health but also supports a noble cause.
Regular exercise is emerging not just as a personal choice but as a foundational component of Fiji’s ongoing efforts in cancer prevention. With community support and active participation, there is hope that the fight against cancer can be strengthened, leading to healthier lifestyles and potentially reducing cancer risk nationwide.
