Calls for Justice: Seruiratu Demands Probe into Controversial Resignation

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has declared that his party will continue to push for justice on behalf of Francis Puleiwai, who recently resigned as the Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). He emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her resignation.

Seruiratu raised three critical questions regarding the situation. First, he noted that Ms. Puleiwai had indicated she was advised to defer the filing of charges, and he seeks to uncover who provided that guidance.

Secondly, he questioned the Attorney-General’s recent statements, particularly why the Attorney-General did not mention Barbara Malimali’s active status on a Constitutional Offices Commission contract signed by the President, in her capacity as the chair of the Electoral Commission. He is looking for clarification on why Malimali is being considered for her position if she has not resigned from her contract.

Finally, Seruiratu expressed his concern about the ongoing pursuit of this matter despite clear evidence indicating the need for thorough investigation. He warned that the affair should not be underestimated, highlighting the importance of the institution’s role in demonstrating adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law.

He underscored that fostering investor confidence is crucial, as a lack of faith in the governance system could deter potential investors, impacting employment and economic stability.
