Two months have passed since the tragic death of Jonathan Lui, a 24-year-old who lost his life following an alleged violent robbery that followed a vehicular accident on September 25, 2024. The incident occurred on Velau Drive in Kinoya, Nasinu, where Jonathan’s vehicle reportedly veered off the road.
According to his father, Ramanu Caladuadua, Jonathan faced further violence after the accident while he was seeking help, as he was attacked and robbed by bystanders, whose identities remain unknown. Upon arrival at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Jonathan was found to have visible injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on December 10, 2024.
In light of his son’s death, Mr. Caladuadua is calling for a thorough investigation. He expressed his dissatisfaction when he was told by the Valelevu Police Station that the case had been closed due to insufficient evidence and a lack of witnesses. However, upon contacting the investigating officer, he learned that the case is still ongoing, with efforts being made to gather new statements.
“We are seeking closure and asking the police to identify those who harmed our Jonathan. If this could happen to him, it could happen to anyone,” Mr. Caladuadua stated, highlighting broader community concerns and fears about safety.
