Calls for Fairness in National Team Selections

Tagimocia Ranadi sevens team manager Ana Rabuka has made an impassioned call for unbiased player selection for the national team. In a recent interview, she emphasized the importance of offering equal opportunities to all athletes during the selection process.

Rabuka urged selectors to attend local tournaments to observe players from various clubs firsthand, allowing them to choose the most skilled athletes for an extended squad before finalizing the national team. She expressed concern that the current selection methods favor certain players, which undermines the efforts of grassroots clubs committed to promoting women’s rugby.

Highlighting the dedication of these grassroots teams, she stated that recognizing their hard work through fair selection could significantly motivate players to elevate their performance in local competitions. Rabuka also advocated for a review of prize money in local tournaments for women’s teams to ensure gender equality in sports funding.

Her team recently celebrated victory in the women’s division of the Nataleira 7s tournament, illustrating the potential success of supporting equitable selection and investment in grassroots women’s rugby.

This call for fairness and inclusivity not only promotes athletic excellence but also paves the way for a more balanced and equitable sports environment where all players can thrive and contribute to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji. The hope is that these changes will foster talent development and inspire future athletes.
