Independent Opposition Member of Parliament Ketan Lal is urging the Government to prioritize the construction of a new state-of-the-art Colonial War Memorial Hospital facility, citing that the current infrastructure is outdated and expensive to maintain.
Lal argued that instead of continuing to invest in an aging structure, the Government should consider building a new hospital equipped to handle the demands of modern healthcare.
“From a construction and engineering perspective, the continuous maintenance of the old CWM facility is not only financially burdensome but also inefficient,” he said.
Lal proposed a phased approach to constructing a new hospital, suggesting that this method would be more cost-effective in the long run. It would also allow for the integration of advanced medical technologies and modern design principles from the start.
“We propose a strategic, phased construction plan, where each phase focuses on a different section of the hospital,” he stated.
“This approach will ensure that the project remains manageable and financially sustainable. By planning meticulously, we can maintain healthcare services with minimal disruption while progressing towards our goal of a new facility.”
Lal emphasized that this initiative should transcend political boundaries, encouraging collaborative efforts instead of blame games. He believes the current government has a unique opportunity to take a visionary step by launching the construction of a new hospital.
He suggested that the existing facilities could be repurposed for administrative or research purposes, ensuring that no part of the infrastructure goes to waste.
Lal stated that a new CWM Hospital would not only benefit the healthcare system but also symbolize the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens, demonstrating an ability to innovate and adapt to ensure future generations have access to world-class medical care.
