A potential reshuffle of permanent secretaries is anticipated in light of an impending Cabinet reshuffle scheduled for later this month. Luke Rokovada, chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), indicated that if any changes occur within the Cabinet, similar adjustments among the permanent secretaries would follow. He stated, “If there is a reshuffle of ministers, it’s likely there’ll be a consequential reshuffle of permanent secretaries. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has previously alluded to the reshuffle in response to concerns regarding the uneven distribution of workloads among ministers. The last adjustment involving permanent secretaries took place in October of the previous year. Notable changes included Selina Kuruleca’s reassignment to the Ministry of Justice and Ratu Meli Nacuva stepping in as the acting permanent secretary for Education, while retaining his role as PS for Youth and Sports. Furthermore, Dr. Rajieli Taga was assigned as the permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister after serving in an acting capacity since October 14 of last year, marking a significant shift in governmental leadership.

This anticipated reshuffle reflects the government’s commitment to adapting leadership roles to enhance efficiency and address workload imbalances, fostering a productive administrative environment.

In summary, the expected reshuffle among permanent secretaries aims to align administrative roles more effectively with the needs of Cabinet, providing an opportunity for improved governance.
