Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the dismissal of Lynda Tabuya from his cabinet. In his statement, Rabuka explained that the decision follows recent developments related to the conduct of Tabuya, who served as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the Oath taken by ministers and the standards expected of them within their roles.

Rabuka invoked his constitutional authority under Section 92(3)(b) to remove Tabuya from her ministerial position effective immediately. He assured that Tabuya would retain her position as a Member of Parliament, stating, “This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but one that is necessary in the best interest of the people that we serve.”

Following this change, Sashi Kiran has been appointed as the new Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Kiran’s swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by His Excellency, the President, solidifying her new role in the cabinet.

This shift in leadership within the government reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to upholding accountability and maintaining high standards among his ministers. It is an opportunity for Sashi Kiran to bring fresh perspectives and initiatives to enhance the welfare of women, children, and families in the community, signaling a hopeful path forward for these vital issues in the nation.
