Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the dismissal of Lynda Tabuya from her cabinet position as Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. This decision follows concerns regarding her conduct and adherence to the standards expected of a minister, as outlined in the Oath she took upon her appointment. Rabuka referenced his constitutional authority to make this decision, emphasizing the necessity of acting in the best interest of the public.

Despite her dismissal from the cabinet, Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament. Rabuka expressed that this was not an easy decision but deemed it essential for maintaining the integrity of the government.

In a move to fill the vacancy left by Tabuya, the Prime Minister has appointed Sashi Kiran to the role of Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Kiran’s swearing-in is scheduled to take place soon, as confirmed by the Prime Minister.

This transition in leadership can be seen as an opportunity for renewed focus and dedication to the pressing issues affecting women and children in Fiji. With Sashi Kiran taking the helm, there is hope for a fresh perspective and innovative approaches to enhancing social protection and support for these communities.
