Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially relieved Lynda Tabuya from her cabinet position. He made this announcement citing recent events regarding the behavior of the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the oath taken by ministers and maintaining the standards expected of them.
In his statement, Rabuka invoked the authority granted to him under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution to make this decision effective immediately. However, he clarified that Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.
Rabuka expressed that this choice was not made lightly, but was a necessary action for the welfare of the constituents they represent. Furthermore, he announced that Sashi Kiran would step into the role of Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, taking over with a swearing-in ceremony to be conducted by the President.
This transition may provide an opportunity for renewed focus and commitment to the welfare of women and children in Fiji, with Kiran expected to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the ministry.
Overall, while changes in leadership can create uncertainty, they can also pave the way for progress and innovative approaches, fostering hope for improved governance and support for social issues in the nation.
