Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has suggested that there will be an expansion in the number of Ministers and Assistant Ministers in the near future. In a recent social media announcement, he indicated that new individuals will assume some of the roles currently under his responsibility. This restructuring aims to alleviate the workload he has been managing.
Mr. Rabuka stated that this shift is vital for preparing the government for the final two years of their term. At present, he oversees several key portfolios, including Foreign Affairs, Environment and Climate Change, Civil Service and Public Enterprises, Information, Immigration, and Policing. He mentioned that the Ministries of Public Works, Justice, and Health may also see the introduction of Assistant Ministers.
It is anticipated that members from the opposition’s Group of 9—who have shown support for Mr. Rabuka in Parliament—could be appointed to these upcoming positions. This potential cabinet reshuffle could be a strategic move to strengthen the government’s leadership as it approaches the end of its term.
This announcement reflects Prime Minister Rabuka’s commitment to effective governance and indicates his willingness to delegate responsibilities. By bringing in new members into significant roles, the administration could enhance its capability to address pressing issues and maintain momentum in service delivery.
Overall, this potential expansion of the cabinet may offer fresh perspectives and foster a more dynamic leadership to navigate the challenges ahead.
