Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made the decision to remove Lynda Tabuya from her role in the cabinet, where she served as Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. This announcement was made following considerations regarding her recent conduct and the responsibilities tied to her ministerial role.
In his statement, Rabuka emphasized that he based his decision on both the oath Tabuya took as a Minister and the ethical standards expected of someone in such a position. He announced that he is exercising his authority under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution to enact this dismissal with immediate effect. However, he confirmed that Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but one that is necessary in the best interest of the people that we serve,” Rabuka stated, underscoring the responsibility of his leadership.
Following Tabuya’s dismissal, the Prime Minister appointed Sashi Kiran to take over as the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Kiran’s appointment will be formalized upon her swearing-in ceremony led by His Excellency, the President.
This transition in leadership may signal a new direction for the Ministry and reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to uphold accountability and high standards in public service. The appointment of Kiran brings hope for fresh perspectives and initiatives in addressing the needs of women and children within the community.
In summary, Rabuka’s decision to dismiss Tabuya illustrates a strong stance on ministerial conduct and sets the stage for potential positive change under Kiran’s leadership.
