The cabinet in Fiji is set for a potential expansion, as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka hinted at the upcoming appointment of new Ministers and Assistant Ministers. In a recent social media update, Rabuka expressed the need to alleviate his responsibilities, stating, “new members will take over some of the portfolios I hold.” This move is aimed at preparing the government for the final two years of their current term.

Currently, Prime Minister Rabuka oversees a variety of significant portfolios, including Foreign Affairs, Environment and Climate Change, Civil Service and Public Enterprises, Information, Immigration, and Policing. Additionally, he mentioned that ministries such as Public Works, Justice, and Health may soon have Assistant Ministers appointed to assist in their management.

There is a possibility that members of the opposition Group of 9, who have shown support for Rabuka in Parliament, will be considered for these new positions.

This anticipated reshuffle could bring fresh perspectives and energy into the government, allowing for a more focused approach to governance during the crucial remaining years of their term. Rabuka’s strategy may foster cooperation with opposition members, promoting a united effort in addressing the country’s challenges.

In summary, Prime Minister Rabuka’s hints at a cabinet reshuffle signal a proactive approach to easing governmental burdens and maximizing efficiency in leadership, with potential benefits to effective governance in Fiji.
