The Cabinet has approved a review of the Mahogany Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA 2010) and the Mahogany Industry (Licensing and Branding) Act 2011 (MILBA 2011). MIDA 2010 was responsible for establishing the Mahogany Industry Council, while MILBA 2011 addressed the licensing and branding of locally sourced hardwood.

The recommendation for this review came from the Mahogany Industry Taskforce Review Committee, which was formed in March 2024 to tackle challenges faced by stakeholders in the mahogany sector.

The Cabinet’s review aims to evaluate the role of the Mahogany Industry Council and facilitate the growth of the mahogany industry, as well as enhance the recognition of Fiji’s hardwood products both nationally and globally.
