The Cabinet has approved a review of the Mahogany Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA 2010) and the Mahogany Industry (Licensing and Branding) Act 2011 (MILBA 2011). MIDA 2010 is responsible for establishing the Mahogany Industry Council, while MILBA 2011 outlines the licensing and branding for domestically grown mahogany.

A Mahogany Industry Taskforce Review Committee was formed in March 2024 and has recommended this review to tackle challenges faced by stakeholders in the mahogany sector.

The Cabinet highlighted that the review process aims to evaluate the role of the Mahogany Industry Council and facilitate further growth within the mahogany industry, enhancing the recognition of the quality of Fijian hardwood products both at home and abroad.
