Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the Cabinet’s approval to issue a State Grant to Robert Pearson Miller through the conversion of a previously closed road. This decision relates to a section of land referenced as Lot 1 SO 2991, which was originally acquired in the early 1970s for the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.
Rabuka explained that since the Suva-Nadi Highway has been completed and is fully operational, the need for the conversion of the Closed Old Queens Road is no longer necessary. As a result, the area will revert to its former tenure to facilitate its rightful use.
This move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to manage land effectively and cater to the interests of the community. The government is focused on making land accessible for various uses that benefit citizens while ensuring that historical agreements are honored.
Connecting this development to broader initiatives, similar road upgrades, such as the ambitious Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project, highlight the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Fiji. The Vanua Levu project, valued at FJD $300 million and funded by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aims to improve access to rural communities, thereby fostering local economic growth.
Rabuka’s administration continues to emphasize the importance of improving connectivity and economic opportunities in local areas, demonstrating an optimistic vision for the future of Fiji’s infrastructure and rural development. The hope is that through these initiatives, local communities will thrive, reduce reliance on urban migration, and bolster their economic prospects.
In summary, the recent land grant approval is a step towards efficient land management, while larger infrastructure projects signal a commitment to development that promises to empower rural communities across Fiji. With every advancement in infrastructure, there remains an optimistic outlook for improved livelihoods and intensified local economic opportunities in the future.
