Cabinet Chaos: Will Action Be Taken Against Defiant Minister?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka avoided confirming whether any disciplinary measures would be taken against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, regarding her acts of insubordination. Ms. Tabuya recently made statements advocating for the reintroduction of the death penalty as a deterrent against drug traffickers using Fiji for drug transit, a topic that should have been addressed by the Cabinet first.

Earlier this week, Mr. Rabuka indicated that the Cabinet would handle the matter concerning Ms. Tabuya’s actions. Tabuya has a history of disregarding Cabinet protocols, leading to demands for her removal from her ministerial role.

In an interview conducted yesterday, Mr. Rabuka expressed a desire to avoid jumping to conclusions about the situation. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not yet been addressed,” he stated, noting that he had only recently returned to Fiji and was unable to tackle matters that were meant to be discussed by the Cabinet the day prior.

Mr. Rabuka emphasized the unfortunate nature of Ms. Tabuya publicly sharing her opinion before any Cabinet discussions could take place.
