Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Cabinet has approved the issuance of a State Grant to Robert Pearson Miller through the conversion of a previously closed road, known as Lot 1 SO 2991. This decision is rooted in discussions that began in the early 1970s when land was acquired for the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.

Rabuka explained that the need for the conversion of the Closed Old Queens Road is no longer necessary now that the Suva-Nadi Highway is completed and operational. This allows the area to revert to its former tenure, making it available for rightful use once more.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to efficient land management and community engagement, as it aims to honor historical agreements while meeting the needs of local stakeholders. Rabuka highlighted that this move not only simplifies land access but reflects a broader effort to enhance connectivity and development opportunities across Fiji.

The significance of this decision is further underscored by its connection to larger governmental initiatives such as the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project. Funded through a substantial grant from China’s Belt and Road Initiative, this ambitious project, estimated at FJD $300 million, aims to improve transportation networks that particularly benefit rural communities, fostering local economic growth.

Rabuka emphasizes that improving infrastructure is not just a matter of construction; it is about empowering communities and creating economic pathways. With each step towards enhancing Fiji’s infrastructure, there remains hope for better livelihoods and overall prosperity for residents in rural areas.

In summary, the approval of the State Grant represents a strategic move towards effective land management and reinforces the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, promising a brighter economic future for the people of Fiji. With ongoing initiatives focused on connectivity and community empowerment, there is a hopeful outlook for the enhancement of rural livelihoods throughout the nation.
