A collaborative effort between police and taxi drivers led to the successful apprehension of a car thief who had stolen a vehicle with two young girls inside. The incident unfolded when a 28-year-old woman, who had been involved in an accident, left her car with the keys in the ignition while she waited for police assistance. Seizing the opportunity, a man jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off with the women’s two daughters in the back.

Upon learning of the theft, police quickly reached out to local taxi companies to alert them through Radio Transmitters (RT). Taxi drivers promptly began on the lookout for the stolen vehicle. The chase concluded when the suspect stopped the vehicle on Rewa Street to let the two girls out. A taxi on the scene intercepted the car, and police arrived shortly after to arrest the suspect, who resisted and assaulted four officers during the process.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu praised the taxi drivers for their crucial role in the operation, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in combating crime. He announced that a team from the Totogo Police Station would visit the taxi operators to express gratitude for their support.

This event highlights the effectiveness of community cooperation in enhancing public safety and protecting families. Such partnerships between law enforcement and local businesses can serve as a powerful example for future crime prevention efforts.

In summary, a timely and coordinated response among police and taxi drivers led to the swift capture of a car thief and ensured the safety of two young girls.
