The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) has emphasized the necessity for adequate financial resources to effectively manage aviation safety and security oversight. This assertion is highlighted in CAAF’s public 2023 annual report.

The report reveals a pre-tax loss of $617,359 for 2023, a striking decline from the profit of $2,255,151 recorded in 2022. CAAF attributes this downturn primarily to a decrease in revenue coupled with an increase in expenses throughout the year.

Despite these financial difficulties, CAAF has managed to maintain its core revenue streams, which include departure tax, government grants, and various fees and charges. CAAF chairperson Peceli Baleikorocau noted that the organization has successfully maintained a clean slate, registering no findings on its financial statements for three consecutive years.

Baleikorocau highlighted that the year 2023 was filled with challenges and successes, showcasing resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Fiji’s aviation industry.

In summary, while CAAF is facing financial hurdles, its commitment to aviation safety and security remains steadfast, suggesting a path forward with potential for recovery and growth in the industry. The resilience demonstrated by CAAF may pave the way for future improvements, indicating a promising outlook for the aviation sector in Fiji.
