The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) has emphasized the need for sufficient financial resources to ensure effective management of aviation safety and security oversight. This point is highlighted in their recently released 2023 annual report.
The report reveals that CAAF experienced a significant pre-tax loss of $617,359 in 2023, a stark contrast to the profit of $2,255,151 reported in the previous year, 2022. This downturn is attributed to a combination of reduced revenue and increased expenses.
Despite these financial difficulties, CAAF reports that it has successfully maintained its core revenue streams, which include departure taxes, government grants, and various fees and charges. CAAF’s chairperson, Peceli Baleikorocau, noted that the organization has continued to achieve nil findings on its financial statements for three consecutive years—a testament to their financial governance.
Baleikorocau described 2023 as a year filled with challenges but also marked by resilience and innovation, showcasing the organization’s steadfast commitment to the safety and security of the aviation industry.
This highlights the importance of unwavering dedication in overcoming financial obstacles while ensuring that critical aviation safety measures remain intact. Looking ahead, CAAF’s commitment to resilience and the continuous improvement of its operational practices provides a hopeful outlook for the future of Fiji’s aviation sector.
