Businessman Ajai Punja recently appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court, facing a charge of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. Following his appearance, he was granted bail set at $500, supported by a surety. The case has been scheduled for adjournment until March 20.

Punja’s arrest took place during a police raid at his Denarau property last Friday. Authorities discovered both a white substance and dried leaves at the scene. Forensic tests indicated that the white substances were not illicit drugs, while the dried leaves tested positive for marijuana.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities in Fiji to combat drug-related activities. Similar recent operations have resulted in multiple raids and arrests, showing a proactive approach by law enforcement to address drug-related offenses and maintain public safety. The Fiji Police Force emphasizes community cooperation as a crucial factor in their ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade.

The situation underscores the challenges presented by drug enforcement, but it also reflects a commitment by authorities to ensuring safe communities. With continued vigilance and community support, there is hope for a decrease in drug-related incidents in the future.
