Nahroon Buksh, a businessman, has denied allegations of fraud following his court appearance yesterday before Suva Magistrate Pulekeria Low. He faces charges related to obtaining a financial advantage through deception. The accusation states that Mr. Buksh impersonated a licensed real estate agent and unlawfully sold a property in Kinoya, which he did not own, to a couple who were genuinely interested in purchasing it. Through this alleged scheme, he reportedly secured $6,000.

The incidents in question are alleged to have occurred between December 10, 2020, and August 23, 2021. FICAC prosecutor Lavenia Ravuikadavu indicated that the prosecution intends to call upon 13 witnesses, while the defense will only present Mr. Buksh. Notably, the prosecution has mentioned that there are partial admissions from a recorded caution interview which the defense does not contest. A one-week trial has been requested, and both parties have agreed on some facts concerning the case.

Currently, Mr. Buksh is out on bail, with proceedings adjourned until February 3. The case highlights the critical importance of integrity in real estate transactions and serves as a critical reminder for the community about the repercussions of fraudulent activities in the business sector. The upcoming trial is seen as an opportunity to clarify the events surrounding the case and reinforce the necessity for vigilance in future transactions.

In a broader context, such legal proceedings aim to promote accountability and restore public trust in business practices. As this case unfolds, it has the potential to encourage greater awareness regarding fraud in real estate transactions, empowering consumers to conduct thorough due diligence when engaging in such investments. The community remains hopeful for a resolution that not only serves justice but also reinforces the values of ethical conduct in all business dealings.
