A well-known businessman in Nadi is facing charges for unlawful possession of illicit drugs after a police raid at his Denarau residence. The Fiji Police Force conducted the operation last Friday, during which forensic analysis of substances found in the home was performed. While the white powders were determined to be non-illicit, dried plant materials did test positive for marijuana.

The businessman is due to appear before the Nadi Magistrates Court later today.

This incident reflects the heightened efforts by law enforcement to address drug-related issues in Fiji. Authorities have ramped up operations against local drug networks, resulting in multiple arrests and significant drug seizures in recent weeks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, underscored the necessity of public cooperation in these initiatives, highlighting that community vigilance is vital for ensuring public safety.

Despite the challenges posed by drug use, the proactive measures taken by police, combined with community participation, offer optimism for fewer drug-related offenses in the area. The ongoing partnership between law enforcement and local residents is crucial for creating a safer environment for everyone.
