A prominent businessman in Nadi has been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs following a police raid at his residence in Denarau. The Fiji Police Force reported that the raid took place last Friday. Forensic analysis revealed that while the white substances found in his home tested negative for illicit drugs, the dried leaves tested positive for marijuana.

The businessman is scheduled to appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court this afternoon.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related activities in Fiji. The authorities have been increasing their operations against local drug networks, which recently led to several arrest and drug seizures. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in these efforts, indicating that community vigilance is crucial in maintaining public safety.

Although the case presents challenges concerning drug use, the proactive stance by police, alongside community involvement, offers a glimmer of hope for reducing drug-related offenses in the region. The continued collaboration between law enforcement and the community is essential for fostering a safer environment for all.
