Eighteen individuals received medical care at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a bus accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle in Lautoka yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred at approximately 2:45 PM on King’s Road in Vitogo, Lautoka. According to police spokesperson Constable Wame Bautolu, the four-wheel drive, while exiting Vitogo Road, struck a Goundar Shipping bus that was en route from Lautoka to Ba.
The force of the collision caused the bus to overturn, landing on its side before hitting the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle. The driver of the four-wheel drive became trapped inside and was subsequently rescued by officers from the National Fire Authority.
The driver of the bus, a resident of Saweni, sustained serious injuries but is now reportedly in stable condition. Among those injured was a passenger, Abdul Khalik Rahman, who suffered broken ribs and required a CT scan for assessment.
Family members, including Aarish Rahman and his father Hafiz, were at the hospital providing support to Abdul Khalik during this challenging time. The community gathered around the hospital as heavy police presence was noted in the emergency area during the investigation of the incident.
