Bus Fare Frustration: Grandchildren Left Stranded Over 50c Coin

A resident of Lovu in Lautoka expressed his frustration after his grandchildren were asked to disembark a bus for not having the appropriate fare, as the driver refused to accept a 50-cent coin. Manueli Sovau stated that this issue has also affected other students in the Lovu area.

His grandchildren, who attend Lovu Sangam School, were unable to attend classes because they were told to leave the bus. “Sometimes the driver charges them $1, which is the adult fare,” Sovau noted. He claimed that the blue e-ticketing bus cards provided by the Education Ministry have not been recharged.

“When we went to Vodafone, we were informed that the card has not been topped up,” he added. Sovau appealed to the Government to simplify the system, as some children have missed school for an entire week. Efforts to reach Education Minister Aseri Radrodro for comment were unsuccessful.
