Bus crash in Fiji raises questions on road safety

Four passengers are currently hospitalized following a serious bus accident that occurred on Monday at Denarau in Nadi. The incident involved a staff service bus contracted by Classic Buses Ltd, which veered off a bridge and landed in a swamp. This bus was transporting staff to the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu confirmed that a total of 50 passengers were involved in the incident, which took place around 7:50 AM. Of these, 43 individuals were transported to Zens Medical Hospital in Nadi, while seven others were admitted to Nadi Hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities reported.

The police have initiated an investigation into the accident, and as of now, no charges have been filed. Classic Buses Ltd has expressed its commitment to cooperating fully with authorities and is conducting its own internal review of the circumstances surrounding the incident. The company has emphasized the importance of passenger safety and has stated that its officials quickly responded to the scene to assist emergency services.

The quick response from medical teams following the accident underscores the community’s readiness to support those in need during emergencies.
