Bus Crash Chaos: Eighteen Injured in Lautoka Collision

Eighteen individuals received medical attention at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a bus accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle in Lautoka yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred at approximately 2:45 PM on King’s Road, near Vitogo, as the four-wheel drive pulled out from Vitogo Road, striking the Goundar Shipping bus that was en route to Ba.

As a result of the crash, the bus overturned and landed on its side, subsequently falling onto the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle. The driver of the four-wheel drive became trapped but was successfully rescued by officers from the National Fire Authority.

The bus driver, who lives in Saweni, suffered serious injuries but is now reported to be in stable condition. A family member, Aarish Rahman, shared that his uncle, Abdul Khalik Rahman, who was a passenger on the bus, sustained four broken ribs and is scheduled for a CT scan before being admitted for further treatment.

A heavy police presence was noted at the scene as investigations into the accident are ongoing.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the prompt response from emergency services, including the National Fire Authority, shows the dedicated measures in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals involved in such incidents. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cautious driving and the need for ongoing road safety awareness in the community.
