Bus Crash Chaos: Eighteen Injured in Lautoka Collision

Eighteen individuals received medical attention at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a bus accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred around 2:45 PM on King’s Road in Vitogo, Lautoka.

According to police spokesperson Constable Wame Bautolu, the four-wheel drive vehicle, which was exiting Vitogo Road, struck the Goundar Shipping bus that was en route from Lautoka to Ba. The force of the impact caused the bus to overturn, landing on its side and onto the approaching four-wheel drive vehicle.

The driver of the four-wheel drive was trapped but was successfully rescued by officers from the National Fire Authority. The bus driver, a resident of Saweni, suffered serious injuries but has been reported to be in stable condition.

A family member, Aarish Rahman, shared that his uncle, Abdul Khalik Rahman, a passenger on the bus, is facing medical challenges after suffering four broken ribs. He is set to undergo a computer tomography (CT) scan and will be admitted to the hospital for further care.

At the time of reporting, a significant police presence was noted at the scene of the accident, and investigations into the circumstances leading to the collision are ongoing.
