Bus Collision Shocks Lautoka: Eighteen Injured in Dramatic Crash

Eighteen individuals received medical treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a collision between a bus and a four-wheel drive vehicle yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred around 2:45 PM on King’s Road in Vitogo, Lautoka.

According to Constable Wame Bautolu, a spokesperson for the police, the four-wheel drive vehicle pulled out from Vitogo Road and collided with a Goundar Shipping bus that was en route from Lautoka to Ba. The impact of the crash caused the bus to overturn and rest on its side, ultimately landing on top of the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle.

The driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle was trapped inside and required rescue by officers from the National Fire Authority. The bus driver, who resides in Saweni, suffered serious injuries but is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Family member Aarish Rahman, along with his father Hafiz Rahman, provided support outside the hospital for their uncle Abdul Khalik Rahman, who was a passenger on the bus. Rahman noted that their uncle will undergo a computed tomography (CT) scan after sustaining four broken ribs and will be admitted for further treatment.

At the time of this report, a substantial police presence was noted in the area where the incident occurred, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of road safety and cautious driving, especially in busy areas where heavy vehicle movements occur. It serves as a reminder for all drivers to remain alert and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
