Burglary Case Moves to Sentencing as Accused Awaits Decision

The State has not yet prepared to begin the sentencing hearing for one of the two men charged with aggravated burglary. State attorney Hezekiah Nofaga stated that the remand period for the accused, Saula Luveitasau, has yet to be determined, as he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Luveitasau and his co-defendant, Taito Soko Tuilevuka, face two counts of aggravated robbery along with two counts of theft. The case was discussed in the High Court in Suva last Thursday before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu. According to the prosecution, the two men unlawfully entered the Zheng Shopping Centre and stole items and cash valued at over $3,000.

Luveitasau informed the court that he has been in custody for two years and one month. Justice Bulamainaivalu has granted the prosecution 14 days to complete the necessary checks.

In the meantime, Tuilevuka, who also pleaded not guilty, is scheduled for a two-week trial beginning on March 17 of next year. His case will be reviewed within this month to assess readiness for trial.

Both sides have the opportunity to file submissions and additional documents prior to October 17 in preparation for Luveitasau’s sentencing hearing.
