Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, has emphasized the need for immediate action following alarming reports of bullying and illicit activities at Queen Victoria School (QVS). Disturbing allegations have emerged claiming that senior students, referred to as ‘gangsters,’ are instructing orderlies from Rewa House to steal 12 loaves of bread each morning during breakfast to avoid the main dining area.
Furthermore, there are serious accusations that these senior students are orchestrating the smuggling of banned items, including marijuana, premixed alcohol, and cigarettes, which are concealed within the school premises and retrieved by students late at night.
In her response, Ms. Tabuya highlighted that while the Ministry of Education is responsible for student oversight, the current situation necessitates a wider approach. She stated, “It’s crucial not only to address the needs of those being bullied but also those responsible for the bullying. This culture of intimidation and lawlessness at QVS must be confronted, and this should go beyond the school’s administration.”
Proactively tackling the problem, Ms. Tabuya has reached out to Inspire Pacific, an organization dedicated to combating bullying, for assistance in addressing these concerning issues.
In parallel, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has acknowledged the serious allegations being circulated on social media, particularly concerning drug use among students. He assured that the authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents involving illegal substances on campus and emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
As the investigation unfolds, there is an urgent call for decisive actions by the authorities to eliminate the bullying culture and restore a sense of order and safety at QVS.
The response from both ministers indicates a commitment to improving the situation at the school. With collaborative efforts to combat bullying and illicit activities, there is hope for a safer and more supportive environment for all students.
Summary: The Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection has urged for immediate action in light of bullying and illegal activities reported at Queen Victoria School, revealing allegations of theft and drug use involving senior students. Authorities are set to investigate and address these serious concerns, highlighting a commitment to creating a safer school environment.
