Former Fiji Bati player Marcelo Montoya is making a comeback to Belmore after signing a two-year contract with the Canterbury Bulldogs. The 28-year-old returns to his junior club after spending four seasons with the New Zealand Warriors, where he scored 30 tries in 82 games.
Montoya progressed through the ranks at Canterbury, starting from the Harold Matthews Cup to the National Youth Competition, before making his NRL debut in 2017. Bulldogs General Manager of Football Phil Gould expressed enthusiasm about Montoya’s return, stating, “It’s always pleasing to bring a local junior back home.” He praised Montoya’s passionate approach to the game and highlighted his versatility in the backline, which will enhance the team’s roster as he embarks on a new chapter with the Bulldogs.
In other news, the Gold Coast Titans have confirmed the signing of former Fiji Bati prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard for the 2025 season on a three-year contract. The 31-year-old player, who has amassed 221 NRL games with Penrith and Parramatta, also brings significant representative experience with the New South Wales Blues and the Australian Kangaroos.
Titans coach Des Hasler expressed his excitement about Campbell-Gillard joining the team, describing him as a “no-nonsense front rower with a high work rate,” and noted that he has been a consistent presence in the NRL for the past decade.
