Bula FC has enhanced its squad with the acquisition of veteran player Ivan Kumar, announcing the 28-year-old as the club’s 13th Warrior in advance of the upcoming season. Hailing from Vatuwaqa in Suva, Kumar’s ascent in the world of football is a testament to his relentless determination rather than mere lineage.

Kumar’s journey began far from the typical backdrop of a footballing family. Instead, he found his passion by joining his brothers in backyard games, which laid the groundwork for his future in the sport, built on discipline and continuous self-improvement. His talent started to shine during his school years at MGM Primary, leading to his progression at DAV College where he earned a spot on the Suva Under-19 team.

His hard work caught the attention of renowned Suva coach Gurjeet Singh, who recognized his potential and brought him onto the Suva senior team. During his tenure there, Kumar thrived and demonstrated impressive performances that eventually earned him a place on the national stage with the Fiji Under-23 side. Following that, he gained valuable experience with a winter league contract in New Zealand.

After returning home, Kumar distinguished himself at Rewa FC, where he was a crucial player over the last three years, known for his reliability and consistent performance in defense. Off the pitch, he emphasizes the significant influence of his family, thanking his parents, wife, and daughter for their unwavering support during challenging training, frequent travel, and the high pressures associated with elite competition.

Now partnering with Bula FC, Kumar feels he has reached a significant career milestone. “It’s top-level football, professional. Now it’s about keeping the standard. I’ve always wanted to play professionally, and this contract is the opportunity I’ve been pushing for,” he expressed.

Kumar’s experience and versatility bring added depth and maturity to the Bula FC squad, as the Warriors gear up for the challenges that lie ahead. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the values of hard work and perseverance in achieving one’s dreams in sports.
