Bula FC’s head coach, Stephane Auvray, shared his candid thoughts following the team’s narrow 0-1 loss to Tahiti United in the second round of the OFC Pro League in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. While he praised his players for their effort during the match, Auvray expressed deep frustration regarding the team’s inability to convert opportunities into goals.
“I’m more frustrated at us not scoring goals than anything else because otherwise we are pretty solid and we are creating chances,” Auvray stated. He pointed out that, despite the lack of goals, the team’s defensive structure and offensive setup remained strong. However, he acknowledged that scoring is an issue that cannot simply be coached during the heat of a match. “We could give the players a structure, we could help them to defend better, attack better, but once they get in the box facing the goalkeeper, there’s nothing we (coaches) can do,” he emphasized.
This loss marks a departure from their previous match where Bula FC secured a win over South Melbourne FC, however, they had also drawn with the same team in their earlier encounter. In round two, Bula FC achieved a 1-0 victory against the Solomon Kings FC, demonstrating their potential despite the recent setback.
Auvray is optimistic as the team prepares to head back home to regroup before facing Vanuatu United FC on February 22, PNG Hekari on February 25, and the Solomon Kings on February 28. “I know we’ll come back so we’re just going to keep pushing because we have everything except the goals,” he added, reiterating his hope for improvement in their upcoming matches.
Bula FC’s journey continues as they aim to find their scoring touch and capitalize on the chances created, and there is commendable determination within the squad to resolve this key issue. The outlook remains positive as they work on refining their strategies for greater success in upcoming fixtures.
