The Bula Brothers, hailing from the highlands of Namosi, are making a noteworthy appearance at the 17th Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s, aiming to leave their mark on the rugby field rather than merely participating. The team sees their journey to Savusavu not just as a rugby outing but as a bold statement of intent as they challenge themselves against more established teams in the national sevens arena.
Team manager Ratu Pio Camaisala expressed gratitude for the support received from their sponsors in Australia and the families of the players. He emphasized that their participation in the tournament would not have been possible without the generosity and encouragement of these supporters.
“This trip would not have been feasible without our sponsors overseas and the families who have stood by the boys from day one,” Camaisala stated. He conveyed that the tournament offers a significant learning experience for a team that is still acclimatizing to the national sevens scene.
Ahead of the competition, Ratu Pio encouraged his players to embrace the challenge without fear, particularly when facing formidable teams like the Devo Young Babas. “I told the boys not to be frightened to play against big teams,” he said, underscoring that this tournament is a foundational moment for the Bula Brothers.
Regardless of the outcomes, Camaisala believes that the experiences gained at Savusavu will be instrumental in shaping the future of the Bula Brothers as they advance in their rugby journey. This tournament serves as a pivotal opportunity for the young team to establish a benchmark for their development and determination in the sport.
