The Digicel Bula Boys are now concentrating on the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for next month, according to team captain Roy Krishna. Following a disappointing performance that culminated in a 1-1 tie against Hong Kong-China in the final match of the Tri-Nations Friendlies, Krishna acknowledged the need for further preparation before the qualifiers.
Krishna remarked on the team’s effort against Hong Kong and highlighted the significance of the upcoming World Cup qualification matches. He expressed optimism that the players would stay fit and healthy, ready to return stronger for the qualifiers.
Regarding his own situation, Krishna mentioned a lengthy trip back to India before starting the new season. “For the team, our next big challenge is the World Cup Qualification next month,” Krishna stated. “We really need to start working from now, that’s the more important one. So hopefully these boys will be fit, injury-free, and come back stronger.”
Head coach Rob Sherman also conveyed his positive outlook, noting that the team is well-positioned to build on the experience gained from the friendlies. They are eager to compete against the Solomon Islands in their initial group match in October.
The World Cup Qualifiers will kick off Group A matches at HFC Bank in Suva on October 10, featuring exciting encounters between the Solomon Islands and Fiji, along with New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea. In Port Vila, Group B matches will include New Zealand facing Tahiti on October 11 and Vanuatu going up against the Round One winner on October 12.
