The Bula Boys Nadi, captained by Amitesh Chandra, achieved a remarkable victory at the Friends of Fiji Tournament 2025, securing a total of 610 points at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club. This triumph marks a historic moment as they became the first Fijian team to win the tournament since its inception in 2019 in Brisbane.
The team, which included prominent players such as Rahiul Kumar, Gerald Sharma, and Azam Khan from Australia, delivered an impressive performance throughout the three-day event. Chandra expressed pride in his team’s achievement, stating, “This is a great morale booster as the majority of the players will compete in the GM Motors Fiji Classics, which gets underway on Thursday.”
Following closely was the Labasa Lions, led by John Prasad, finishing in second place with 601 points, while Rohit Naidu’s Club 8 secured 595 points and Munesh Prasad’s Bula Boys General Denarau came in with 593 points.
The next Friends of Fiji tournament is set to take place in Sydney, New South Wales, in late 2027. Tournament chairman Pravin Singh highlighted the purpose of the event, aiming to foster international camaraderie among golfing enthusiasts and provide a competitive platform for participants.
Additionally, today marks the inaugural AHICE Fiji Charity Golf Day at the same venue, an event designed to bring together professionals in the industry for a day of fun and fundraising for charity. Kaushal Tappoo, a principal partner, reiterated the importance of such initiatives for the tourism sector in Fiji.
As the golfing community in Fiji continues to grow, events like these not only showcase talent but also foster relationships and commitment toward enhancing the sport. The positive momentum generated by tournaments such as the Friends of Fiji Tournament and the upcoming GM Motors Fiji Classics reflect a bright future for golf in the region, encouraging both participation and support for charitable causes.
